The 28-year-old Argentine's current deal runs until the end of the season, but United are likely to trigger a one-year extension. According to Football Insider, this is a strong possibility given that Martinez has been a regular starter under Michael Carrick at the beginning of this campaign.
If he can maintain his fitness and become a key part of the team's defence, a more extended contract with improved financial terms might be on the table.
In the past two seasons, however, Martinez has struggled with injuries, which has significantly influenced the club’s assessment of his long-term prospects at Old Trafford. Fortunately, the Argentine has recently recovered and has started in United's last two matches.
This situation may also attract interest from other clubs. Reports suggest that Martinez's performances for the Argentina national team could spark interest in him as early as January.
Martinez joined Manchester United from Ajax in the summer of 2022 for £57 million. Since then, he has made 112 appearances and has won both the FA Cup and the League Cup with the club.
