Erling Haaland is weighing up a move away from Manchester City in the summer of 2027, with Barcelona being his preferred destination. This comes from Catalan outlet El Nacional, although the information has yet to be confirmed by other sources.
According to the publication, the 26-year-old striker is reportedly unhappy with the direction of the City project and some decisions made by the hierarchy. Specifically, it is claimed that Haaland is disappointed with the appointment of Enzo Maresca as Pep Guardiola's successor.
However, the source does note a detail that makes such claims worth treating cautiously: Maresca previously served as Guardiola's assistant at Manchester City and is well acquainted with the team's playing principles.
El Nacional also indicates that Haaland's representatives have recently met with officials from Barcelona in both London and Paris.
The Norwegian is said to be avoiding a move to Real Madrid following Kylian Mbappe’s arrival there, as he wishes to create his own legacy at a different club. Barcelona is thus touted as his preferred option.
That said, any potential transfer could prove extremely difficult financially. In January 2025, Haaland signed a long-term deal with Manchester City that extends until June 2034, leaving the English club in a strong negotiating position and under no obligation to consider selling their star forward.
Starting the current season in impressive form, Haaland has scored five goals in five matches for City. Interest in the striker has previously been reported from both Real Madrid and Barcelona.
