Aston Villa newcomer Leon Goretzka has shared his initial emotions and thoughts following the official completion of his transfer to the Birmingham club.
The German midfielder revealed that after a lengthy break, he needed time to reflect on his next career steps. However, he was left with a positive impression after first contact with the club:
I am extremely happy to sign a contract with this club. I had quite a long holiday, and I needed time to understand what I really wanted. From the very beginning, I had a very good feeling, and now I'm incredibly excited to be here.
After my first conversation with the coach, I was left with only positive impressions. Aston Villa is a huge club for me. It took time for me to fully grasp my goals for the next stage of my career, but from the very first moments here, I felt: this is the right decision. I'm very happy to be at the club.
Goretzka emphasised his intention to bring valuable experience to the team and expressed hopes for a successful season in England. The seasoned midfielder also highlighted the nature and level of competition in the Premier League compared to the Bundesliga:
Clearly, this is a new league for me. I can't wait to play such high-stakes matches every few days. Perhaps this is the main difference from the Bundesliga, where only a few genuinely big games against strong opponents occur throughout the season. I am looking forward to this challenge.
