INEOS, owned by Jim Ratcliffe, has put Swiss football club Lausanne up for sale, continuing its strategy of shedding sporting assets.
To facilitate the sale, INEOS has engaged global consulting firm Alvarez & Marsal. Potential investors have been presented with a document titled ‘Project Striker’, which highlights the club’s infrastructure and prospects in European competitions. However, it glosses over the financial losses and the team’s current last-place standing in the Swiss Super League.
This move follows INEOS’s decision to put French club Nice on the market, amid increasing financial pressure and a reassessment of its ambitious sporting ventures.
Moreover, Ratcliffe's sporting project is under considerable strain at Manchester United, where INEOS holds operational control. The team’s disappointing results have intensified criticism of the club's hierarchy.
While the sale of Lausanne is unlikely to dramatically alter INEOS’s financial situation, it does signal a return to focusing on core business areas.
