Jeremy Doku believes he has fully overcome his injury troubles and is regaining his form at Manchester City. The Belgian winger admitted the break forced by his injury allowed him to recharge and regain confidence.
In August, the 24-year-old suffered a calf injury that kept him on the sidelines for 46 days.
This latest setback was Doku's third injury since December 2022.
He made his return to the pitch in a thrilling 5-3 victory against Sunderland in September.
Missing the last international break, Doku took the opportunity to focus on his physical conditioning.
In his last three outings, he has contributed a goal and an assist.
Reflecting on the time away from the game, he said:
When you’re out for five or six weeks, you miss a lot of matches.
Plus, with a new coaching staff coming in, a lot can pass you by.
Sometimes a break can actually be beneficial for recharging.
When I returned, I felt fantastic.
Doku also reminisced about his substitute appearance against Liverpool, where he scored in a commanding 3-0 win.
Sitting on the bench against Liverpool, I felt I was in great shape.
I know I can create problems for any opponent.
Having joined Manchester City from Rennes in 2023, Doku's initial three seasons in England were under Pep Guardiola, but the club is now led by Enzo Maresca.
According to Doku, the new manager's demands have remained fairly consistent.
Maresca and Pep expect similar things from me.
To do my job on the flank, remain a threat, and create chances.
Last season, Doku netted 8 goals and provided 14 assists in 47 matches for Manchester City. Now, having regained his fitness, he is eager to secure a regular spot in Maresca's squad.
