The Independent Football Regulator (IFR) in the UK is vested with the authority to compel the owners of Manchester City to sell the club in the event of proven management violations. This was stated by the body’s chairman, David Kogan.
Speaking on the podcast The Rest Is Football, Kogan emphasised that the regulatory body has the power to demand owners step aside if the club is managed improperly.
When asked if an owner could disregard such a demand, Kogan responded emphatically:
No, no, no. We have absolute power to do this.
However, he noted that discussing specific measures at this time is premature, as the club is still in the process of appealing the findings.
Recently, an independent commission found that Manchester City had utilised fictitious commercial agreements, artificially inflating revenues or reducing club expenses by over £900 million over nine seasons. The club has contested the commission’s findings and submitted an official appeal.
