Darren Fletcher stepped in to support Manchester United's players following their impressive 4-0 win against Sabah in the Champions League. The U18 coach had a few stern words for a fan who expressed his displeasure at some players not stopping to sign autographs.
Footage has emerged on social media showing Fletcher addressing the disgruntled supporter:
"Listen, this doesn't matter. You can't talk like that, show a bit of respect. It's people like you who make players reluctant to give autographs.”
The individual who recorded the incident later explained that the fan was yelling at every player who passed by without stopping:
"I can't recall everything word for word, but he was shouting at every single player who didn’t stop for an autograph. Fletcher himself was signing autographs, but the fan missed him. As Darren walked away, the fan called him disrespectful and used some strong language. His tone was incredibly aggressive.”
The creator of the video further emphasised that the fan's behaviour crossed a line:
"This fan was behaving horrendously. He definitely crossed the line with both what he said and how he said it.”
This altercation occurred after United's comfortable win over Sabah, marking their first clean sheet of the season. Goals from Matheus Cunha, Bruno Fernandes, Benjamin Sheshko, and Lisandro Martinez secured the impressive victory for Michael Carrick’s side.
