Head coach Xabi Alonso has called on Chelsea to convert their encouraging start to the season into consistent performances.
The Spaniard is looking for a commanding display in the upcoming match against Brighton this Sunday.
Since taking the reins, Alonso has received a warm welcome from the fans at Stamford Bridge. Under his guidance, the Blues have already secured a narrow 3-2 victory over Fulham in the Premier League and triumphed against Luton Town in the League Cup.
This fixture against Brighton will be Alonso's first real home test in the Premier League.
“It’s nice. We’re happy to have such support, and I’m glad to feel this warm reception from the fans. From the first day of my time here, I’ve felt that they are pleased we are starting this journey together. Now it’s time to get results and prove that every weekend. We’ve played two games, and it’s a good start, but it’s still too early to draw conclusions. Sunday will be a good game, a solid test to see where we are,”
Alonso is well aware that challenges are inevitable during a long season.
“We will definitely encounter bumps in the road, and we must be prepared for that. How we react, how we stick together, and how we maintain our mentality will be really important. So it is still early days, and while there have been some good moments, there are also areas that need development and improvement,”
The Chelsea boss is also anticipating a tactical battle against Brighton, managed by someone he knows well, Fabian Hurtseler.
“I know him very well from Germany, from St Pauli. He’s building a team with new players. It’s a very intense side that does interesting things. That’s why Sunday will provide a good contest and an excellent test,”
