Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has delivered a stern message to his teammates following their second consecutive 2-2 draw at the start of the Premier League. The Merseysiders had to fight back twice against Nottingham Forest, but new manager Andoni Iraola is still searching for his first win in the league.
The Argentine international stressed that the idea of a transition period cannot be an excuse for dropping points:
“Character is an excellent trait. We’ve had detailed discussions with the coaching staff about our resilience when we find ourselves behind. But at Liverpool, character alone isn’t enough. There’s no such thing as a 'transition year' or a 'rebuilding phase' here. We come here to win.
We urgently need results. If we want to compete for the title this season, we need to start winning right now. Tactically, we’re heading in the right direction, but the current points tally is unacceptable.”
