Former striker Alan Shearer believes that Manchester City's head coach Enzo Maresca will be under immense pressure if the club fails to secure the Premier League title this season.
The Citizens have committed significant funds to strengthen their squad, and Shearer argues that such investment necessitates a serious challenge for the championship title.
“You make those kinds of investments to win the league,” added Shearer.
“Therefore, Manchester City should now be a title contender. If they don’t win the league, then I think the manager will be under immense pressure. You don’t spend that kind of money to finish second or third.”
“I have no idea how Manchester City have managed to spend so much money while still facing these allegations,” said Shearer.
“I understand why so many questions are being asked. This has been dragging on for far too long, hasn’t it?”
“Not so long ago, I saw an interview with Richard Masters, where he said he understood the public's perception, but also mentioned that the decision rests with an independent commission. So, I really don’t know.”
