Xabi Alonso has addressed Chelsea's injury situation ahead of their match against Leeds. Moises Caicedo and Marco Palhinha are not ready to return, Levi Colwill is fit, and Jordan Henderson and Emmanuel Emega remain unavailable.

Xabi Alonso has given an injury update on Chelsea's squad ahead of their League Cup third-round clash with Leeds United. Moises Caicedo and Marco Palhinha are still sidelined, while Levi Colwill is fit to play.

In response to questions about Palhinha and Caicedo's potential participation, Alonso stated:

No, not yet. They are still not ready. This is not the time to take risks and bring them back too soon. We assess the situation before each match. It’s still too early.

Alonso also shared news regarding Palhinha, who sustained an injury just before the start of the season:

It’s especially disappointing for him. He came in with so much energy and a strong desire to showcase himself in the Premier League. He performed very well during pre-season but was injured just days before our first match against Fulham.

But returning from injury is part of a footballer's life. We will definitely benefit from him when he returns, as he has tremendous potential and will add many qualities to the team that we need.

On a positive note, Colwill is ready to return. When asked about the defender's condition, Alonso said:

He’s doing well. He’s ready for tomorrow's match.

Could Caicedo potentially recover for Chelsea's next match?

Potentially – yes. But we need to wait. We’ll probably know more on Thursday or Friday.

As for Jordan Henderson and Emmanuel Emega, will they be fit to face Leeds?

No, not yet.

When asked about the timelines for both players' return, Alonso added:

How close are they? Ask me on Friday. Yes, ask me on Friday.
