New Manchester City signing Iliman Ndiaye has shed light on his surprise switch to the Citizens over Tottenham in the final hours of the transfer window. The winger, who joined from Everton for £65 million, revealed that when the option to team up with Enzo Maresca became available, he felt entirely sure of his decision.
Before the late move to City, Tottenham had already reached an agreement with the Merseyside club for Ndiaye's transfer.
Ndiaye explained:
There was no stress or panic. I always say that what’s meant to be will be. God determines your future, and it’s already written. I was just waiting, and when City came in, I was incredibly happy.
Maresca is someone who liked my game, and once they showed interest, there was only one direction I wanted to go.
When asked how close he was to a move to Tottenham, Ndiaye emphasised that his priority had always been Manchester City:
It always had to be City for me. I wanted to play in the Champions League and represent one of the best teams in the world.
I'm not saying Tottenham isn't one of those, but when Manchester City comes knocking, you don’t turn them down. It was a fantastic week for me, and that victory was a great way to cap it off.
The Senegalese has already made his debut for his new club, contributing to a narrow 1-0 victory over Coventry in the Premier League.
