Chelsea striker Danny Welbeck is gearing up for a match against his former team. The Blues will face Brighton on Sunday.
The 35-year-old forward spent the last five years of his career with the Seagulls before joining Chelsea this summer.
"This is a special match because Brighton is my old team. Fortunately for me, I've played against my former clubs quite a lot in my career, so this isn’t anything new. I’m really looking forward to it and excited to keep pushing forward," Welbeck said.
Welbeck has made a strong start at Chelsea, netting his first goal in a victorious League Cup match against Luton Town (2-0) on Thursday.
"I really like it here, and I’ve settled in quite easily. It’s a great group, and the staff have been really welcoming at the training ground. Everyone has been very kind to me, and the fans have accepted me well, which I really appreciate. It was also nice to see a few familiar faces when I walked through the door, which helped me adjust. Now I just want to keep growing and improving every day," the striker added.
Welbeck also expressed his enthusiasm about working with Chelsea's new head coach Xabi Alonso.
"Everything is going very well, and it’s been a positive start, but we’ve only played a couple of matches. We need to keep working hard and absorbing the new ideas he’s bringing to us. There are a lot of new concepts, while some players have returned a bit later, and newcomers are integrating and need to find their feet. But so far, everything has been excellent, and we have some really exciting times ahead of us," the forward concluded.
