Bayern Munich's honorary president Uli Hoeness has taken aim at Liverpool, claiming they are failing to utilise midfielder Florian Wirtz effectively, insisting that the German would perform far better in Munich.
Wirtz made his move to Anfield from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2025 for a fee of around €125 million, although Bayern also vied for his signature. However, the attacking midfielder has struggled to find his rhythm in the Premier League.
According to Hoeness, Liverpool have not provided Wirtz with the same role and influence he enjoyed at Bayer:
Florian would be playing for us much better than at Liverpool. I watch many of their matches. They haven’t integrated him properly at all. At Leverkusen, he received every ball; at Liverpool, he is just one of many.
Previously, Bayern had made a concerted effort to sign Wirtz, largely thanks to Hoeness’s relationship with the player's father, Hans. Amid the midfielder's current struggles in England, there have been whispers of Bayern's renewed interest, but Hoeness firmly ruled out any transfer attempt due to Wirtz's long-term contract with Liverpool:
He has a long-term contract with Liverpool. They will try to integrate him better there.
