Sam Amo-Ameu, the 20-year-old winger from Strasbourg, has been cautioned against making a hasty move to Chelsea. Journalist Andy Brassell has lauded the young Englishman's development and compared his playing style to the legendary Arjen Robben.
Amo-Ameu made quite the impression in Ligue 1 during Strasbourg's emphatic 6-2 victory over Troyes, coming off the bench to net a brilliant double, both times cutting in from the right flank to finish with his left foot.
Brassell spoke to talkSPORT about the young talent:
Amo-Ameu was superb after coming on. Strasbourg already had the advantage, and he effectively closed the door on any comeback.
Last season, he contributed intermittently, but it's clear he's taken a step up. He scored two goals with his left foot after coming in from the right—finishes that even Arjen Robben would be proud of.
Those were two magnificent goals; his talent is blatantly obvious. The question for Strasbourg is whether they'll give him enough time to develop where he currently belongs.
Both Strasbourg and Chelsea are under the umbrella of BlueCo, and there have been player transfers between the two clubs before. However, Brassell believes that it might not be in Amo-Ameu's best interests to take that step just yet:
If Chelsea tries to swoop for him in four or five months or a year, I wouldn't be surprised. But at this stage, it would likely be the wrong decision.
He is an incredibly exciting player. I wouldn't want him to end up being just another asset. I genuinely enjoy watching him play.
Amo-Ameu is also part of the England youth setup, and Brassell emphasised that for the time being, the winger should focus on maintaining consistent performances at club level, considering the fierce competition for spots in the senior national team, which he undoubtedly aspires to join:
You've got Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer, and we've talked about Ethan Nwaneri. So, for Amo-Ameu, it's all about having a really strong season at the club, and then we'll see what happens.
