Manchester United may consider rekindling their interest in Lewis Hall in 2027. During the summer, the young defender chose to remain with Newcastle, sealing a new long-term contract; nonetheless, the Manchester club are still monitoring his situation.
Hall was frequently linked with a departure from St James' Park last summer.
However, the 22-year-old Englishman eventually extended his contract with Newcastle until 2031, effectively dousing the flames of any transfer speculation for the 2026/27 season.
Hall explained that the attention from other clubs did not sway his decision.
He said:
To be honest, it didn't affect me at all.
When you're linked with another club, it probably means you’re doing something right.
It’s simply a recognition of your game, your level as a footballer and as a person.
A lifelong supporter of Newcastle, Hall described his choice to stay as an obvious one.
Despite his commitment to the club, reports suggest that Manchester United's interest remains undiminished.
The Red Devils are preparing for a significant defensive overhaul next summer, with three defenders—Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, and Harry Maguire—likely to depart at the end of the season.
In light of this, United will need multiple reinforcements in defence, and Hall is still considered a viable option.
Adding to the intrigue, there are whispers surrounding Eddie Howe.
The former Newcastle manager is among the names linked with a potential role at Manchester United.
If Howe ends up at Old Trafford, it could heighten their interest in Hall, a player he has already worked with.
However, Newcastle are not keen to part ways with Hall easily.
The club reportedly values the defender at around £70 million.
Hall's new contract until 2031 also gives Newcastle a strong negotiating position should discussions occur.
As things stand, Manchester United's interest is still speculative, with no concrete talks or offers on the table.
