Emmanuel Petit believes the intense competition at Arsenal serves as one of Mikel Arteta's greatest assets. The former Gunners midfielder has urged Eberechi Eze to show he deserves a place in the starting XI.
Though Eze has yet to start in the Premier League this season, he did feature from the off in the Champions League clash against Napoli.
Peti stated:
The next step for Arsenal is to maintain the same standards, ambitions, confidence, and humility. Players like Eberechi Eze are crucial for Mikel Arteta in this regard.
Rotation will be key this season. Last year we witnessed just how vital squad depth and bench options can be. Eze is one of those options now, but there are still plenty of matches ahead.
The fact that Arsenal has so many players capable of maintaining a high level from the start sends a clear message to the entire dressing room: if you want to play, you need to be really good.
If Eze wants to feature, he must fight hard and earn his place. If he manages that, he’ll help maintain those high standards.
Peti is also confident that Arsenal can defend their championship title:
We will continue to hear criticism directed at Arsenal for every little action. A team of standards?! Right now, they are playing excellently and with immense confidence.
They have become stronger as a unit. We’ve seen how they break through opposition lines, and it feels like the glass ceiling above this team has finally been shattered.
The first title was incredibly important for Arsenal, and now the team is capable of winning it many more times in the coming years.
At the start of this season, it’s clear how confidently they are playing. I truly believe they will win the Premier League again.
