Former Liverpool striker Ryan Babel has advised supporters not to expect Bradley Barcola to be a direct replacement for Mohamed Salah. The French winger made a splash with the Reds following his move from PSG for £123 million after Salah's exit, but Babel emphasised that Barcola should focus on crafting his own narrative at the club.
Babel stated:
I think he understands football. He’s still young, but he’s talented and experienced, so there are many reasons to believe he can become the player he’s capable of being at Liverpool.
I don’t think Barcola should be seen as someone who needs to replace a legend. He should focus on himself and find his own way to help the club.
I remember when we thought Steven Gerrard was irreplaceable. Of course, there’s no other Steven Gerrard, but the club moved on and enjoyed better times ahead.
Babel highlighted the challenges in replicating Salah's astonishing journey:
Football always moves forward, and the club always progresses. There will never be another Mo Salah, and that’s perfectly fine. A player shouldn’t think, 'I need to replace Mo Salah.' I believe that’s impossible.
