Chelsea forward Morgan Rodgers expressed the team's disappointment following their 2-1 defeat against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
The Englishman acknowledged that the Blues came into the London derby hoping for a victory, but the opposition proved to be stronger on the day.
“We are disappointed. We came here with the aim to try and win, and we didn’t manage that, so, of course, the players and the lads are frustrated. But it’s a long season, and it’s a tough place to come,” said Rodgers.
“I believe we performed well. We played good football for large parts of the match, creating chances and defending effectively when needed. It is tough, and they are in a really good spot right now and feeling very confident.”
According to Morgan, Chelsea still has room for improvement, but the team is heading in the right direction.
“There’s still a lot to work on. We are a new team with a new manager, trying to gel our ideas together and getting better and better. And we will. We know that,” he added.
“We know we have quality in the dressing room. It’s just about working hard on the training ground and addressing the situation,” said the player.
“We’ve done well winning previous matches and in terms of our performances.”
“Of course, there are areas for improvement because this is just the start. But seeing positive signs so early and consistently receiving support, both on the training ground and in matches, we are only going one way – forward,” he concluded.
“That’s all you can ask for as a player when there are changes happening within the club and you’re striving to achieve something.”
