Brazilian forward Richarlison is unlikely to play for Tottenham again, having been left out of the 25-man squad for the Premier League season.
Following Spurs' 2-0 defeat to Newcastle, manager Roberto De Zerbi addressed the situation, revealing that Richarlison had «spoken too often about wanting to leave». There had been expectations that the player would exit the London outfit before the transfer window closed.
On Monday, Richarlison shared an emotional message on social media.
«After everything I've been through in recent years, I've decided that no one will ever decide my future for me again,» the Brazilian stated.
«I've endured a lot of negativity, and much of it happened because decisions were made by others. Pressure, threats, revenge – none of this scares me. I've faced worse, believe me,» he added.
«I've always made it clear whenever possible that leaving for another club would only happen if it was mutually beneficial. If it weren't, I'd never agree to it. Just like I didn’t back away when things were tough and they needed me,» Richarlison noted.
«I stayed and gave my all. Therefore, I hope my situation will be treated with the same respect I've always shown to Tottenham and everyone who worked with me during this time. Just don’t try to decide for me,» the forward concluded.
Negotiations for a return to Everton fell through before the window shut, but the 29-year-old could still be heading to Turkish side Trabzonspor.
Last season, Richarlison netted 12 goals and played a crucial role in helping Tottenham avoid relegation from the Premier League.
