Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has made a bold prediction regarding Michael Carrick's future at Old Trafford following a draw with Leeds.
The team is under immense pressure at the start of the season. In their first ten matches across all competitions, the Red Devils have managed just two wins. Following the 1-1 draw at Elland Road, Carrick's side finds themselves in 13th place in the Premier League.
Despite being a prime candidate for the sack, Schmeichel believes the manager will remain in his role.
If you are the coach of Manchester United, you are always under pressure. Is he under immediate threat of dismissal? I don’t think so at all.
The Danish icon noted that the club's hierarchy has complete faith in Carrick and recognises that the rebuilding process will take time. According to him, the bosses see Carrick as the future of the club and will afford him several transfer windows before making any final decisions.
This sentiment was echoed by Arsenal legend Freddie Ljungberg, who urged United's hierarchy to take a leaf out of the Gunners' book and support Carrick like they did with Mikel Arteta during a tough spell.
At Arsenal, when Mikel Arteta came in, there were moments when people were calling for his head when they lost three matches on the bounce and were at the bottom of the table. But the club stuck with him because it was decided he was the future. I think Manchester United should do the same. If they see Carrick as the future, they need to hold on to him.
