Chelsea players Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer have given their insights following an emphatic 6-3 victory over Leeds United in the EFL Cup.
The London side found themselves trailing after Tarik Muharemovic struck in the first half, leaving them to regroup at half-time.
With the introduction of Rogers, Palmer, Reece James, and Pedro Neto in the second half, Chelsea quickly faced further adversity as Brenden Aaronson added a second for the visitors. However, a penalty converted by Palmer turned the tide, sparking a remarkable comeback.
After the match, Palmer explained what he had urged Alonso during the interval.
“Increase the intensity. I think the first half was sluggish, so we needed to up the tempo.”
Palmer also expressed his satisfaction with his performances in the current setup.
“I’m enjoying it. For all the attacking players, this is a completely new experience. We have room to grow, but we’re getting results, and that’s the most important part.”
Rogers chimed in about his synergy with Palmer.
“It feels like we’ve been playing together forever. It’s a massive pleasure to perform alongside such top players. I’m really enjoying my football, trying to play freely and show what I can do. I’m playing with a smile and a sense of freedom. There’s a lot of good happening right now, and it’s great.”
He then offered his thoughts on the team’s prospects.
“We still have a lot to work on. This is just the beginning, and everything looks very exciting. We need to keep progressing and learning.”
At the end of the chat, Rogers commented on his cheeky backheel assist.
“Absolutely, I did that on purpose. I caught his run out of the corner of my eye and just laid it into his path.”
