New Liverpool signing Lukka Brugmans has expressed his long-term ambition to establish himself as the first-choice goalkeeper for the English club.
The 18-year-old Belgian penned a long-term deal with the Reds on September 1, before returning to Genk on loan through the end of the 2026/27 season.
In an interview with HLN, Brugmans revealed that while he can't disclose all of Liverpool's plans for his development, he is acutely aware of his primary goal.
“The intention is to become their number one in the long term. I will do everything possible to achieve that,” Brugmans stated.
He also expressed satisfaction about continuing his spell at Genk this season. This loan will provide him with regular playing time and the opportunity to develop at the senior level before making the move to Anfield.
Liverpool officially confirmed Brugmans' transfer on September 1. The young goalkeeper signed a long-term contract but will spend the entire 2026/27 season at Genk.
Brugmans made his first-team debut for Genk in April 2026 and went on to play an additional ten matches in the league before the end of the previous season. He has also secured a starting position at the Belgian club at the start of the new season.
