Following the departures of Ibrahima Konate and Andy Robertson, as well as Joe Gomez's injury, Liverpool have urgently restructured their defence. The club has secured Ronald Araujo on loan from Barcelona and promoted Frenchman Jeremy Jacques, who was signed back in February.
Both defenders made their debuts in a friendly against Como, where Jacques found the back of the net. Captain Virgil van Dijk has assessed how well the new signings are adapting.
Virgil van Dijk stated:
Gelling comes through games. I wouldn’t say it’s the only way, but matches are drastically different from training. Clearly, Jeremy speaks a bit of English better than Ronald, but ultimately, we’re all top players and understand certain situations, knowing how to defend. It’s clear that we need to establish a connection on the pitch, and that takes time. I think that’s absolutely normal. I hope we can gel as quickly as possible.
Liverpool will kick off their new Premier League season on August 23 with an away fixture against Newcastle.
