Liverpool are monitoring 18-year-old Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal, who is also attracting interest from Atletico Madrid. The Catalans are reluctant to sell their academy graduate, but his situation may change this summer if he remains unhappy with his playing time.

Liverpool have set their sights on 18-year-old Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal. The Merseysiders are keenly monitoring the La Masia graduate, with Andoni Iraola reportedly rating his abilities highly.

Journalist Juan Jesus has shared information revealing that Liverpool's interest in Bernal isn't isolated, as Atletico Madrid are also keeping a close watch on the young talent.

Jesus reported:

Marc Bernal is attracting attention from several clubs. Liverpool and Atletico are monitoring him closely, with Simeone and Iraola both being fans of his playing style.

For now, the midfielder is focused on earning his place at Barcelona and convincing Hansi Flick to grant him more playing time. However, it’s likely that both parties will reassess his situation in the summer.

According to the journalist, if things do not change, a full transfer could be on the cards rather than just a loan arrangement.

While Bernal hopes to impress Flick, a review of his game time will take place in June. With established stars like Pedri, Gavi, De Jong, and Rodri ahead of him in the pecking order, Bernal is not currently the first choice.

If he's dissatisfied with his situation, a permanent move seems quite likely. Barcelona are reluctant to let him go unless the player himself requests a transfer.

For Liverpool, the interest in Bernal stems from their quest for a natural defensive midfielder. Since Fabinho's departure in 2023, the club hasn't signed a direct replacement, instead opting to utilise different central midfielders in that role.

Bernal, however, has already gained significant experience in senior football. The La Masia product has played 44 matches for Barcelona, netting five goals and providing three assists.
