Jurgen Klopp is on the brink of unveiling his first squad for Germany after taking the reins as head coach. Reports from German media suggest that the coach intends to summon a larger than usual contingent, planning to split the team into two groups for four Nations League clashes.
Germany’s schedule is packed, with matches set for 24 September away against the Netherlands, followed by a home encounter with Greece on 27 September, before taking on Serbia on 1 October and facing Greece again on 4 October, this time away. Klopp is expected to officially announce his squad on 17 September.
The extended list is likely to include Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz. According to Liverpool Echo, Klopp aims to divide players into two groups, each set to play two matches. This strategy not only allows the new manager to assess a broader range of talent but also helps to ease the burden on the team's key players.
Wirtz’s inclusion is particularly pertinent given a challenging start to the season with Liverpool. Despite the struggles at club level, the midfielder remains a pivotal member of the national setup and is anticipated to receive a call-up from his former manager at Anfield.
Klopp took over from Julian Nagelsmann, whose side exited the World Cup in the Round of 16. The 59-year-old coach has signed a four-year contract, with one of his first major targets being Euro 2028.
