Newcastle are closely monitoring midfielder Bo Hegland from Jurgarden, who is having a brilliant season in the Swedish league. Hegland himself has stated that he wasn't looking to leave during the summer, yet he hasn’t made any commitments regarding his future after this season.
According to Norwegian outlet TV2, Newcastle, along with Anderlecht and Lorient, have shown interest in Hegland. Scouts from the English club were reportedly present at the recent Jurgarden match against Mjallby to get a first-hand look at the player.
In an interview with Fotbollskanalen, Hegland explained why he chose to remain in Stockholm:
For me, it was quite simple during the summer. Many asked if there was a chance I would leave, but I was completely focused on Jurgarden. As you might see, I enjoy playing here. I love football with a good team that wins a lot. That’s been my mindset all along.
Swedish media have also reported that Hegland turned down the opportunity to move to Anderlecht earlier this year. However, the 22-year-old is prepared to reassess his career options once the season wraps up:
You understand that the path abroad can be short, but this summer I was entirely focused on Jurgarden, and that suits me just fine.
The Norwegian is currently having the best season of his career. After Jurgarden’s 2-0 victory over GAIS, he has tallied 8 goals and 15 assists in the Swedish league. As per reports from Fotbollskanalen and SVT, his 15th assist allowed Hegland to equal the all-time record in the league.
The Allsvenskan season will conclude this autumn, after which Hegland’s future situation could change. His contract with Jurgarden runs until 2029.
