Chelsea have ramped up their efforts to sign young talent Jay Jay Gabriel following the 15-year-old’s official request to Manchester United for an immediate release from his contract. According to TEAMtalk, the London club is now the clear favourite in the race for the promising forward.
The Blues are doing everything they can to convince Gabriel that his future lies at Stamford Bridge.
Gabriel has filed for release
TEAMtalk reports that Gabriel has officially sent a letter to Manchester United requesting de-registration — essentially asking for his current agreement with the club to be terminated.
United are reluctant to comply, as they still intend to keep the talented player, although they have been aware for several months that Gabriel was weighing up his future.
The situation, however, has escalated significantly.
Chelsea are the main contender
As per TEAMtalk, virtually all the leading clubs in England and across Europe have contacted Gabriel's representatives regarding his situation.
European giants who have already shown interest include:
- Barcelona;
- Real Madrid;
- Bayern Munich;
- Dortmund;
- PSG;
- Juventus.
In addition, Chelsea face competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool, and Manchester City, who have all made open offers to Gabriel.
However, Chelsea are currently regarded as the primary contender for one of the highest-rated young talents in Europe.

The London club has long focused on identifying and developing young talent, and Gabriel fits perfectly into this transfer strategy.
Chelsea also remember the situation with Rio Nguumo, who left Liverpool in 2024 and continued his career elsewhere.
Now, they aim to take advantage of Manchester United's woes and persuade Gabriel to choose Stamford Bridge.
Gabriel has already made history at United
Despite his young age, Gabriel has amassed an impressive record during his time at United.
In early 2025, he became the youngest player to feature for Manchester United's U18 team at just 14 years old.
Upon turning 15, he was given the number 95 shirt and the opportunity to train with the first team.
Following this, Gabriel was awarded the U18 Premier League Player of the Season, solidifying his status as one of the most promising players of his generation.
During a pre-season match against Atletico in Stockholm, Gabriel stepped onto the pitch, becoming the youngest player in Manchester United's history to represent the first team.
United wanted to keep their talent
Manchester United had been preparing to offer Gabriel a scholarship agreement and were considering a preliminary professional contract, understanding that a mere scholarship would not fully protect them from losing the player before he turns 17.
The club remains convinced that the pathway to the first team they have created can provide Gabriel with the necessary conditions for his development.
However, his request for de-registration has placed the hierarchy in a challenging position.
