15-year-old talent Jay Jay Garbiel has officially requested that Manchester United cancel his registration and permit him to leave the academy, according to The Telegraph.
The young forward's request has taken United's hierarchy by surprise. However, it's reported that Garbiel does not plan to immediately move to another club.

Having been part of the Manchester United system since he was 11, Garbiel was touted as one of the most promising prospects in the academy.
Now, the 15-year-old has made an official request to terminate his registration with the club.
That said, the situation is not yet definitive. Manchester United has the right to contest his request and, as The Telegraph claims, they do not view the situation as hopeless. The club is hopeful of finding a resolution to retain the player.
Why Garbiel cannot just move to another team yet
Age is a crucial factor in this context.
Garbiel turns 16 next month and, until then, he cannot sign a scholarship contract with another club.
Furthermore, Premier League rules dictate that to deregister an academy player, consent from the club, the player, and his parents is required, or a mandatory league decision must be made.
