Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has opened up about his ongoing difficulty in accepting the loss of Diogo Jota. The German coach expressed profound shock at the tragic news that the 28-year-old Portuguese forward passed away in a car accident with his brother Andre Silva.
In a new biography titled “Diogo Jota: Forever in Our Hearts”, Klopp recalled how he personally insisted on Jota's transfer from Wolverhampton to Liverpool back in 2020.
I thought right away: ‘I want this player,’ the former Reds boss shared, noting that it was an instinctive decision.
Klopp praised Jota's versatility, mentality, and technical ability, emphasising that the forward perfectly suited Liverpool's playing style. During his time at the club, the Portuguese international won several major trophies, including the Premier League title in 2025.
However, Klopp revealed that discussing the death of his former player remains immensely painful.
Even to this day, I must admit, I still haven’t been able to come to terms with it, he said, reflecting on the tragedy.
