Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel has called for support for Xabi Alonso, stating that the Spanish manager is building something special at Stamford Bridge.
The ex-midfielder's remarks came after the Blues' impressive victory against Bournemouth, where they triumphed 5-1 in the Premier League.
Mikel believes Alonso’s wealth of experience, both as a player and a manager, can bolster the team's confidence and help the players adopt his footballing ideas.
“I think Xabi Alonso is building something special, and we all need to support him. When you look at the coaching staff and see someone of his calibre who has won trophies as both a player and a manager, it instils confidence in the team.
The players will listen to Xabi Alonso and look to emulate him,” stated Obi Mikel.
Moreover, the former Chelsea player emphasised that one standout result isn’t enough. In his view, maintaining a high level of performance throughout the season will be crucial for the Blues.
“This season, stability will be key. Let's beat Everton and aim to secure at least two victories in three matches against Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United,” added Mikel.
Thus, the convincing success over Bournemouth has provided a glimmer of optimism. However, upcoming matches against formidable opponents will test Chelsea's ability to consolidate their recent achievements.
