Liverpool is facing a serious transitional period off the pitch, with sporting director Richard Hughes officially departing for Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Hilal.
On the pitch, however, manager Andoni Iraola's side is producing some promising performances. In their third match under the Spanish coach, the Reds convincingly defeated Ipswich Town.
Alexander Isak was in fine form, netting two goals in the encounter. This convincing victory has lifted spirits at Anfield just ahead of their upcoming Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid.
Yet, the positivity on the field is somewhat overshadowed by the instability within the club's hierarchy. Al-Hilal has confirmed Hughes' appointment.
Alongside him, Mark Burchell and Craig Mackie have also made the move to Saudi Arabia after joining Liverpool with Hughes in the summer of 2024.
During their time at Liverpool, they closely collaborated with chief scout Barry Hunter. Now, Burchell has taken on the role of director of player recruitment at Al-Hilal, while Mackie will serve as their director of scouting.
"Hughes' appointment is part of Al-Hilal’s efforts to strengthen their footballing system and develop their sporting structure by leveraging specialised expertise," said a statement from the Saudi club.
The statement further emphasised that this move is aimed at enhancing the quality of technical operations and improving integration across all facets of the football sector.
Now, FSG president Mike Gordon is actively seeking a replacement for Hughes at Anfield.
