Prominent blogger Mark Goldbridge has undergone a drastic change of heart regarding Michael Carrick, urging Manchester United's hierarchy to dismiss the head coach immediately.
The Red Devils' catastrophic season hit a new low on Wednesday night, suffering a 4-1 defeat to Italian side Como in the Champions League. The team conceded their first goal just two minutes into the match, exhibiting an utterly lifeless performance.
Following the game, captain Bruno Fernandes publicly criticised Carrick's tactics. TEAMtalk journalist Graham Bailey confirmed that the pressure on the manager is mounting rapidly.
For the first time, the players looked lost and not fully committed to Carrick and his staff's plans. While it’s clear the players aren’t delivering results, it’s far easier to sack a manager than it is to axe any player.
Goldbridge, who boasts a massive following, will no longer defend the United boss. After the setback against Como, he posted a scathing message.
Sack him tonight. Carrick and his staff are simply not up to the required level. If the club continues in this way, they’re just living in a fantasy.
This marks a complete turnaround in the blogger's stance. Just days ago, Goldbridge suggested that the hierarchy should part ways with sporting director Jason Wilcox due to a disastrous transfer window to take some pressure off Carrick.
I think we need significant changes at the club, and as horrible as it would be to sack someone, I would let Jason Wilcox go. The fans would appreciate this since they blame the hierarchy for the transfer window. It would give Michael a bit of time and authority. If we can be ruthless to managers, why can’t we be ruthless to the sporting director?
Now, the situation has shifted dramatically, and no one is willing to tolerate the team's performance any longer.
