15-Second Brief
Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has backed Gianluigi Donnarumma and Marc Guehi following their mistakes in recent matches. The boss has given his stars a three-day break before their cup clash with Brighton.

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has voiced his support for Gianluigi Donnarumma and Marc Guehi, who faced a storm of criticism following the 1-0 loss to Aston Villa.

This disappointing result interrupted City's perfect start to the Premier League season, with Guehi struggling in the previous game against Ipswich Town as well.

In a bid to combat fatigue, Maresca has given five key players, including Donnarumma, Guehi, Erling Haaland, Elliot Anderson, and Josko Gvardiol, a short break. The group will enjoy a three-day holiday abroad, with the manager refusing to lay blame at the feet of his stars.

Donnarumma has been doing well from the outset. Like any player or manager, he will make mistakes at some point, but that's part of the season. They're playing so many matches and minutes that it's impossible not to slip up sometimes. He's a strong character and knows when he makes a mistake without needing us to remind him. Often, it's clear enough for them to admit it themselves; it's part of the game.

I'm fully satisfied with Marc because his reaction has been fantastic. He's a great guy, one of the captains and a leader, and I genuinely appreciate Marc. Like 'Gigio', when they make mistakes, they acknowledge them. He's played almost every minute since the start of the season, so he’s in a good place.

Following the game against Villa, we granted five players a three-day break to recharge. They're all on holiday now. Three days to rest and regain energy. Get away, come back full of beans, and we're ready to go again.

This Wednesday, City’s backup goalkeeper, Geronimo Rulli, will take the field in the fourth round of the EFL Cup against Brighton. The Argentine rejoined the club this summer and is ready for action.

He's doing well. Before I arrived here, we had a conversation, and he understands his role, which is important. He trains hard every day, providing significant help, and Donnarumma is also there to support him. Whenever he's got game time, he's performed well, and he will play again today.

Looking ahead, Manchester City face two consecutive home matches against Brighton at the Etihad. After their cup tie, the teams will meet again in the Premier League.

Brighton are in great form, so both matches will be challenging. They create a lot of chances and score plenty of goals. We need to be solid at the back and make the right decisions in attack.
