Newcastle manager Matthias Jaisle is keen on signing Al Ahli striker Ivan Toney during the upcoming January transfer window.
According to reports from Saudi media, the former Brentford forward has become the top target for the German coach. Toney played under Jaisle at Al Ahli before the latter took over from Eddie Howe at St James' Park this summer.
It’s expected that Jaisle wants to reunite with the 30-year-old striker, who may be tempted by the prospect of returning to the Premier League. Although Arsenal and Chelsea previously showed keen interest, Toney eventually made a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia.
Newcastle urgently needs to bolster their attacking options. Just over a year ago, they sold Alexander Isak to Liverpool. Replacements Nik Watlemade and Joao Vissa have yet to make the impact expected.
Watlemade has already been loaned out to Juventus in Turin, while Vissa has been plagued by injuries. Ivan Toney could be the answer to Newcastle's goal-scoring woes as they navigate the second half of the season.
