Barcelona's sporting director Deco has opened up about his admiration for Ronald Araujo, who is currently on loan at Liverpool. The Uruguayan defender stole the show with a brilliant back-heeled assist to Dominik Szoboszlai during a Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid, showcasing his immense talent and creativity.
Deco was clearly impressed by Araujo's contribution, stating:
I watched Liverpool's match yesterday. What a great pass he made, right? I saw the game from home. Football is bigger than just a player belonging to our club. I have a genuine attachment to Ronald; I value him greatly. I want him to succeed and be happy, both on and off the pitch.
For me, he is a very special player. There was a time when he wasn't at his best, but his time at Barcelona has been nothing short of impressive. Sometimes, circumstances do not align with a player's current state, and a temporary departure can be beneficial.
Will he return? We’ll see. He still has a contract with us. It’s too early to make any conclusions. We hold him in high regard — the hierarchy and the entire dressing room. Time will tell; that is a matter of the future.
At Anfield, Araujo has established himself as a solid right-back, significantly strengthening that flank compared to Jeremy Frimpong's performances.
Notably, Araujo's loan agreement includes a buyout clause set at €55 million. If Liverpool’s hierarchy decides to activate this option, Araujo's future would then be out of Barcelona's hands.
