David Moyes commented on Everton's 0-2 defeat to Arsenal, acknowledging the team's strong defensive effort but lack of chances in attack. He praised players Jake O’Brien and Tyrique George while criticising the officiating.

Everton manager David Moyes reflected on his side's 0-2 defeat against Arsenal.

Moyes stated that conceding early in the game made things difficult for his players, who ultimately lacked sharpness in front of goal.

"After we conceded at the start, it became tough for us. We couldn’t really get back into the game. We tried hard and battled well for significant stretches of the match. That was good. We didn’t allow the opponent to create chances easily, but in the end, we just didn’t have enough opportunities," Moyes told BBC Match of the Day.

Moyes assesses defensive performance

The first goal for Arsenal came from Eberechi Eze in the 7th minute. Moyes admitted he needs to review that incident, although he noted that his team generally defended well during set-pieces.

"I need to look at that moment again, but it got a bit chaotic at the far post. We failed to clear the ball properly or even get a touch. Other than that, we defended pretty well for most set-pieces," the manager commented.

Moyes also praised the performances of Jake O’Brien and Tyrique George, highlighting that many players from Everton performed well in their roles.

"We need to be better in attack"

Despite their solid defensive showing, Moyes conceded that his team didn’t create enough dangerous moments in front of the opposition goal.

"In attacking terms, we didn’t do enough, but defensively we really worked hard and tried to make life as difficult as possible for the opponent.

We desperately wanted to score. Tierney Barry had a chance in the first half, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was a bit unlucky at the end. We definitely need to be better in attack than we were today," Moyes emphasised.

Moyes comments on referee's decision

In closing, the manager addressed the yellow card he received during the match and offered a critical assessment of the referee’s performance.

"I don’t know what it was for. I felt sorry for the referee today because, from my perspective, he had a very poor game. So I did feel for him," Moyes stated.
