Fulham's head coach Alvaro Arbeloa has reflected on his side's narrow 1-0 away victory against Coventry City in the eighth round of the Premier League.
Speaking to BBC Match of the Day, the Spanish manager was pleased with the outcome and acknowledged how vital this win was, especially in what he described as a challenging fixture.
"We got what we were aiming for. We fought hard for 90 minutes and tried to play our game. It wasn’t easy, as the opponent is strong and we knew that. But we handled it well. It’s been too many months since our last away victory, so this result is very important for us," Arbeloa stated.
"A clean sheet is hugely significant"
Arbeloa emphasised the importance of a solid defensive performance. He shared his belief that Fulham must maintain focus throughout matches, given that Premier League teams can exploit any lapse in concentration.
"Another clean sheet is a massive plus for us. We have quality players who can score, but we need to press well and defend reliably. It’s incredibly tough in the Premier League. You can feel the opponent can score if you lose concentration. We really managed to do well today," he remarked.
Arbeloa praises Oscar Bobb's impact
The manager also highlighted the significance of Oscar Bobb's decisive goal, underlining the role of young attacking players in the squad.
"We need goals from Oscar and Josh King. These players operate up front, and they’re crucial for our attack. They are the ones who should make a difference. They’re young footballers, and the hardest thing in football is scoring goals. But they are working hard and improving. Oscar is doing well, and he must keep it up," Arbeloa noted.
He praised Bobb's execution of the winning goal, describing his final strike as one of the best finishes of the match.
