Chelsea are now setting their sights on Atletico Madrid midfielder Pablo Barrios, having recently missed out on the transfer of Lamine Kamara.
The Blues were on the verge of securing Kamara before Monaco pulled the plug at the very last minute, leaving the English club fuming.
According to the Daily Briefing, Chelsea have now fully shifted their focus to Barrios.
The 23-year-old had also attracted interest from Arsenal earlier this summer, but Atletico were clear in their intention not to sell the Spanish international. This prompted the Gunners to turn their attention to Bruno Guimaraes instead. Meanwhile, Liverpool and Tottenham continue to monitor Barrios's situation closely.
Javi Alonso's side has found themselves short in midfield following the unexpected sale of Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City. It’s likely that the club will attempt to rectify this issue in the upcoming winter transfer window.
The talented Spaniard appears to be an ideal replacement for Fernandez, but Atletico will do all they can to keep hold of their star player, especially in the thick of the season.
