There’s a common misconception that Chelsea can no longer relocate to Earls Court, given that EDC previously presented a master plan for the area which does not include a new stadium.
However, as reported by journalist Kieran Gill, insiders at Chelsea believe there may still be sufficient available land in the area to find a solution for a new stadium.
Thus, the EDC master plan doesn’t necessarily rule out the possibility of Chelsea exploring options in Earls Court. The club is said to still be weighing up the opportunity to locate an appropriate space amid the extensive redevelopment of the area.
The future of Stamford Bridge remains a separate strategic issue for the club. Chelsea needs to assess how realistic it is to either expand their current stadium or build a new one in an alternative location.
