Chelsea are considering bringing Renato Veiga back to London.
The Blues are keeping a close eye on the 23-year-old’s performances at Villarreal, where he has established himself as a key part of the team. In the current 2026/27 season, he has started every one of Villarreal's seven matches in La Liga, contributing with an assist.
Veiga is already familiar with Chelsea
The Portuguese defender made the switch to Stamford Bridge from Basel in the summer of 2024, signing a seven-year contract with the option for an additional year. After a loan spell at Juventus, he left Chelsea permanently to join Villarreal in the summer of 2025, where he continues to represent both the Spanish club and the Portugal national team.
Reasons Chelsea may want him back
Veiga’s versatility is one of his strongest assets. Capable of operating in multiple defensive positions, he allows the coaching staff to adjust the defensive structure without the need for tactical substitutions. This adaptability has once again caught Chelsea’s attention, and reports suggest that the club is actively exploring the possibility of re-signing the Portuguese defender.
