Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has advised Manchester United to seize the opportunity presented by their neighbours' financial crisis. He has called on the club to pursue goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and midfielder Elliot Anderson, especially if Manchester City face relegation from the Premier League.
Recent reports from The Athletic have revealed that Manchester City have been found guilty on 114 out of 115 charges brought against them by the Premier League. While the clubs and league have not yet confirmed the decision officially, City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has urged fans to remain calm as the team prepares to appeal. Should their appeal be rejected, the club faces potential fines, transfer bans, points deductions, or even relegation.
Agbonlahor believes that the potential demotion of City is a rare opportunity for the Red Devils:
Donnarumma – I've been keeping a close eye on Lammers. He underperformed at the World Cup, letting Belgium down at a crucial moment and hasn’t looked convincing this season. Remember Lisandro Martinez's own goal against Fulham – the keeper should have saved that. I'm not confident in him at all. United need to go and grab Donnarumma from their fierce rivals.
The pundit also highlighted United's interest in Elliot Anderson last summer. At that time, the Glazers and INEOS opted not to meet Nottingham Forest's asking price. Consequently, the midfielder ended up joining Manchester City for £116 million:
