Brighton have turned talent scouting into big business. Moises Caicedo left for €116m, Carlos Baleba for €75.9m, with several players netting the club over €60m. Here are the ten biggest sales for the Seagulls and the stories behind these transfers.

Brighton have earned a reputation as one of Europe’s top clubs for spotting, developing, and selling football talent. The Seagulls find players before they become stars, forcing the wealthiest clubs to fork out substantial sums for their services.

FootballTransfers has compiled a list of the ten biggest sales in Brighton's history. At the top, with a significant lead, is Moises Caicedo, yet the entire list highlights the club's consistent ability to transform relatively inexpensive signings and academy products into assets worth millions.

10. Karl Rushworth – €25.7m, Coventry, 2026

Rushworth was largely under the radar in the Premier League, never making an appearance for Brighton's first team. The goalkeeper developed in the academy, gaining experience through various loans.

After playing a pivotal role in helping Coventry achieve promotion to the Premier League in the 2025/26 season, the club was keen to secure him on a permanent basis. An offer of €25.7 million was sufficient for Brighton to agree to his sale.

9. Deniz Undav – €26.7m, Stuttgart, 2024

Undav struggled to establish himself as a key player in England, but a loan stint at Stuttgart transformed his career. The forward helped the German side achieve a sensational second-place finish in the Bundesliga.

With a spot in the Champions League secured, Stuttgart shelled out a club-record €26.7 million for the striker.

8. Yves Bissouma – €29.2m, Tottenham, 2022

After transitioning from Lille, Bissouma didn’t instantly cement his place in the squad, but under Graham Potter, he became one of the most notable central midfielders in the league.

In 2022, Tottenham paid nearly €30 million for the Malian midfielder.

7. Alexis Mac Allister – €42m, Liverpool, 2023

One of Brighton’s standout finds, the Argentinian was signed from Argentinos Juniors for around €8 million in January 2019.

Gradually, Mac Allister emerged as a leader for the Seagulls, winning the World Cup with Argentina, before moving to Liverpool for €42 million in the summer of 2023.

6. Ben White – €58.5m, Arsenal, 2021

White emerged through Brighton’s system, garnering wider recognition during a loan spell at Leeds. After returning to the south coast, the defender had just one full season with the first team.

That was enough for Arsenal to swoop in and pay €58.5 million.

5. Jan Paul van Hecke – €60m, Tottenham, 2026

Van Hecke became one of Brighton’s leading central defenders; however, in 2026, he declined to extend his expiring contract and requested a move.

Following protracted negotiations, Tottenham agreed to pay €60 million. This allowed Brighton the opportunity to replace the departed defender with young Luka Vuskovic.

4. Joao Pedro – €63.7m, Chelsea, 2025

The Brazilian enjoyed two impressive seasons at Brighton after his switch from Watford, contributing 30 goals and 10 assists in 70 appearances, according to reports.

After the 2024/25 season, Joao Pedro expressed a desire to leave, with a move to London being his preferred option. Chelsea agreed to pay an initial €63.7 million, and less than a month after his transfer, he helped his new side win the Club World Cup.

3. Marc Cucurella – €65.3m, Chelsea, 2022

It took Cucurella just a single full season with Brighton to catch the eye of England’s top clubs. After being named Player of the Year, both Manchester City and Chelsea took an interest.

Ultimately, it was the latter who agreed to Brighton's financial demands, securing the player for €65.3 million.

2. Carlos Baleba – €75.9m, Manchester United, 2026

Manchester United attempted to sign Baleba as far back as 2025, but Brighton rebuffed their advances, valuing the midfielder at over €100 million.

The transfer came to fruition a year later. After a less fruitful season, Baleba's price dropped, allowing United to secure him for €75.9 million. Even with this lower fee, he still ranks as the second largest sale in the club’s history.

1. Moises Caicedo – €116m, Chelsea, 2023

The record for Brighton belongs to Caicedo. Chelsea made the Ecuadorian their primary target for the summer 2023 transfer window, but talks were delayed due to Brighton's hefty valuation.

In a dramatic twist, Liverpool joined the chase at the last moment, yet Caicedo ultimately made his switch to Stamford Bridge. The deal, as noted in the ranking, reached a staggering €116 million.

Caicedo’s story epitomises Brighton’s transfer strategy: identifying promising footballers before rivals, providing a platform for their development, and standing firm in negotiations when the affluent clubs come knocking.

For now, Caicedo's record remains unchallenged. Even Baleba, in second place, generated nearly €40 million less for Brighton.
