Barcelona is keeping an eye on the situation of Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall. According to Tuttomercato, referenced by TEAMtalk, the Catalan club is evaluating the status of the Swedish player. Napoli is also showing interest in the player.
Bergvall's appeal stems from his limited appearances in the Tottenham starting lineup this season, having only started twice in the Premier League. The competition in the midfield has intensified with the arrivals of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes.
However, Tottenham's stats show that Bergvall has featured in eight matches across all competitions this season, with six of those being as a starter.
Tottenham rates Bergvall highly
Back in September, the 20-year-old midfielder signed a long-term contract with the London club. Sporting director Johan Lange described him as a player with "huge potential," highlighting his technical skills, footballing intelligence, and work ethic.
Manager Roberto De Zerbi has also praised the Swede, stating that Bergvall is bold, willing to take responsibility, and possesses the character needed for important matches.
Despite the interest from other clubs, the recent contract extension allows Tottenham to maintain control over the player's future. Reports indicate that Spurs are not keen to let him go any time soon.
Game time could be a decisive factor
A key concern for Tottenham is their ability to provide Bergvall with consistent playing time. Before the current season, he had already made 80 appearances for the first team and became the youngest player to represent Sweden at a World Cup last summer.
However, with high competition in the midfield, regular outings are not guaranteed. If his situation regarding game time doesn’t improve, the interest from Barcelona and Napoli may intensify.
