Former Chelsea goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has suggested that Cesc Fabregas could be in line to manage Arsenal in the future. He argues that the Spaniard's current role at Como shows he is ready to step up to clubs with higher ambitions.
Fabregas, who enjoyed a prolific spell with Arsenal, made 267 appearances, scoring 35 goals and providing 70 assists, and even donned the captain’s armband at just 21 years old.
Begovic, who played alongside Fabregas at Chelsea, said:
“Cesc managing Chelsea or Arsenal? That’s not something to rule out. I've played with him, and I understand how deeply he comprehends the game. His knowledge is simply exceptional.
He commands respect among players and works with immense energy, enthusiasm, and intensity. Those qualities make him an ideal candidate to be a top manager. His work at Como has been outstanding, but at some point, he's going to want to take the next step in his career.
I’m convinced that Chelsea considered him for their managerial role but ultimately opted for Xabi Alonso, which is a fantastic appointment.
A move to Arsenal would also seem a logical step, given Fabregas' status at the club. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him managing in the Premier League or La Liga soon. He has the potential for an incredible coaching career.”
Currently, Arsenal is managed by Mikel Arteta, while Fabregas continues his work in Italy, with Como sitting in fourth place in Serie A after three rounds of the new season.
