Fulham's Alex Iwobi has matched Mohamed Salah’s record for the most appearances by an African player in Premier League history. The Nigerian midfielder achieved this milestone in Saturday’s match against Coventry City, which ended in a 1-0 victory for the Cottagers, thanks to a stunning goal from Oscar Bobb in the 80th minute. Both Iwobi and the Liverpool forward now have 328 appearances in the league.
Iwobi's journey through English football began with his debut for Arsenal back in October 2015. During his career, the midfielder has played for three clubs:
- Arsenal: 100 matches
- Everton: 123 matches
- Fulham: 105 matches
The only African player with more Premier League appearances than Iwobi and Salah is former Ivory Coast defender Kolo Toure, who racked up 353 appearances across stints with Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool. Thus, Iwobi needs to feature in just 25 more games to set a new record.
