Alan Shearer believes Atletico's refusal to sell Julian Alvarez to Barcelona has created a golden opportunity for Arsenal. The North London club continues to express interest in the Argentine forward as the transfer deadline approaches.
The Premier League legend commented:
We've heard a lot about the pressure from Barcelona and Atletico's unwillingness to proceed with this deal. Their stance seems to be, 'If we have to sell him, we're definitely not selling him to you.'
This opens a small window of opportunity for Arsenal to swoop in. If they were to secure him, it could be game over in the title race.
Mika Richards echoed Shearer's sentiments, suggesting Arsenal should seize the moment regarding Alvarez:
If I were in Arsenal's shoes, I'd be going after a striker. We've all seen what's happening with Alvarez at Atletico. Recently, he was booed by his own fans, and reports indicate that he wants to join Barcelona. But will Atletico sell him to them?
Perhaps Arsenal should step in with an offer. It's clear he's unhappy with his current situation. Bringing in Alvarez would lift Arsenal to another level.
Shearer also considers the reigning champions of England to be the frontrunners for this season:
Arsenal have positioned themselves exceptionally well. While the others are changing and starting anew, Arsenal are already primed.
All their competitors recognise that the Gunners are the favourites and are in the best position to win the league again and compete for the Champions League.
They have an incredible opportunity to establish dominance in the Premier League for the next couple of years.
