Head coach of Bayern Munich, Vincent Kompany, has been rushed to hospital after collapsing on Friday. The incident occurred while the 40-year-old was observing a training session of the club's reserve team.
Kompany had been feeling unwell due to a virus and missed his pre-match press conference on Tuesday ahead of their Champions League clash against Arsenal. However, he was able to be on the sidelines during the match itself.
On Friday, Vincent Kompany required medical assistance after fainting during training with Bayern's amateur team, according to an official statement from the club.
Currently, Kompany is undergoing thorough examinations in hospital and remains under medical supervision. In his absence, the management of training and upcoming matches will be handled by his coaching staff.
Bayern's next Bundesliga match is scheduled for Sunday against Freiburg.
Sporting director Max Eberl commented on the situation:
Vincent Kompany's health is our top priority. At Bayern, we will do everything possible to ensure his speedy recovery. Winnie will receive all the necessary medical care and support, along with as much time as he needs. We have complete faith in his coaching team, who will take on his responsibilities. Everyone at Bayern wishes Winnie a swift recovery.
It's worth noting that ahead of the game against Arsenal, one of Kompany's assistants, Aaron Danks, held the pre-match press conference in his stead.
