Rio Ngumoa described the intensity of matches as his main challenge at senior level and explained why he chose to play boldly from his first training sessions at Liverpool. The club is working on a long-term contract for the winger.

Liverpool winger Rio Ngumoa has shared the difficulties he faced in making the jump to senior football and how his bravery played a key role in gaining the respect of his teammates.

The Merseysiders are also looking to extend the young talent's contract on a long-term basis.

Now 18, Ngumoa admitted that adapting to the intense schedule and physical demands of adult matches has proven to be the toughest part.

"Games come thick and fast, and it's really not easy. You need to get used to the schedule and intensity of the games. This is especially important for young players, including me," Ngumoa explained.

Despite these challenges, Ngumoa believes that the confidence he gained during training sessions with the first team has been crucial. Rather than avoiding mistakes, he focused on expressing his individuality and wasn’t afraid to take players on.

"When I first trained with them, I needed to show how fearless I was. If you're scared of making a mistake, it gives the impression that you lack character. I think that’s what players want to see. If I have the chance to take on an opponent one-on-one or win a small duel, I'll definitely try to do it," he said.

Ngumoa also pointed out that his transition to the first team has felt comfortable both on and off the pitch. He noted that his teammates welcomed him warmly, which helped him settle in quickly.

"On the pitch, I try to play the way I have since I was six years old and continue that way now that I'm 18. Off the pitch, everyone has been really kind to me. I've been well-received here, so everything has gone great," he added.

Having already clocked up 232 minutes of first-team action under manager Andoni Iraola, Liverpool are keen to secure Ngumoa's progression with a new long-term deal. Contract extension remains a priority for sporting director Julian Ward amid interest from other clubs.
