Aston Villa striker Nicolas Jackson reflected on his side's impressive 2-1 victory over Manchester City in the eighth round of the English Premier League. The Senegalese forward scored a brace to secure three points for the Birmingham club.
In an interview with BBC Match of the Day, the forward emphasised that the team's result was due to their hard work and collective effort.
'It's an important victory. We achieved the result we needed and fought really well as a team. I'm happy,' Jackson stated.
Jackson also shared his thoughts on his goals, highlighting that team success remains his top priority.
'I just try to work for the team, finish attacks, and score goals. I’m really pleased to have scored twice, but the victory is the most important thing,' he added.
Reflecting on the match against Manchester City, Jackson noted that Aston Villa understood the level of their opponents but remained committed to their own style of play.
'We know they are a very strong team, with some of the best players in the world, and it's not easy to play against them. We tried to play boldly and show our character,' the forward commented.
How Jackson scored his second goal
The forward elaborated on his connection with Ibrahim Mbaye, his Senegalese international teammate, who assisted his second goal.
'We always communicate. We are from the same country and are very close. When he came on, I asked him to make a run, and it worked out perfectly—I finished the attack. I'm delighted that we created that goal together,' Jackson explained.
Jackson also expressed his satisfaction with the atmosphere within the team and his role at the club.
'I'm happy because of the players, the coach, and the whole team. There’s an incredible atmosphere in the dressing room. I’m really pleased to be here,' he said.

In conclusion, the striker reflected on the impact of Aston Villa's manager Unai Emery, expressing appreciation for the trust the coach instils in him and his teammates.
'He has the same passion and desire for success. He believes in me and every player. I'm happy to work with him again and hope we can achieve great things together,' Jackson concluded.
